Between 1840 and 1845, there mysteriously appeared a singular product that would give Minorcan fashion jewellery worldwide fame: those beautiful silver string purses. An accessory of great elegance, in which silver, delicately "knitted" by female hands, acquired a magical looseness and movement, as though they were Minorcan fishing net.
This specialized product, that became greatly important for the island's economy, established the basis for the Minorcan fashion jewellery industry. Today, the island's fashion jewellery continues to occupy an avant-garde place on a European level, for its quality and importance.
